One of the greatest gifts God has given us is the Power of Prayer. Not only do we get to bask in the presence of the Almighty, but we get to collaborate, ushering His will to this broken earth. What an honor!
What I love about prayer is that the more hearts we include, the more our faith gets stirred up and the more powerful our prayers become. God has given me incredible opportunities to connect with other Believers who not only encourage my faith but help me as I wait for God to answer. In my personal life, I have taken part of many Prayer Pit Crews. The idea was birthed by a friend of mine named Amy Stoher and I thought it was crucial to share this incredible dynamic in case any of you wanted to duplicate it for yourselves.
This world is filled with isolation and anxiety. This is the enemy’s plan to destroy hope and faith; by coming together with one heart and a common purpose, we can break down those walls, allowing God to heal.
Prayer Crew Guidelines
Closed group of 4-6 people, max
- No gossip. Let’s be women of excellence and discipline, committing our voices to bless others and NOT curse. Prayer is an honor and great responsibility.
- No dumping. Our friendships should be built on healthy support, not weighty co-dependance. This is why we must stay mindful not to dump our burden upon others, expecting them to carry the whole weight. We walk beside each other; cheerleading and empowering them to lean on God. God is our focus. We are NOT called to replace Him.
How the group will be run.
* Each meeting starts with Praise and ends with Prayer.
*Declare a clear goal you’ve set for yourself this year. This will be your tagline. (Owning your goals and identifying with them.)
*Refrain from giving advice or counsel and use our time to provide space and healing through the art of listening and hearing.
*Take notes so you can remember how to lift others up.
*“Trade” Burdens. Share one personal burden too heavy to bear, ‘trading’ the time and effort you’d normally give to thinking and praying for yourself, to pray for another.
*In your private prayer time, commit to allowing God to use you as a source of encouragement. This could look like: Checking in, texting a prayer, setting up a prayer call, sending an encouraging word/note. No pressure! Allow His spirit to lead you but if you’re shy, you may need to set up a schedule to follow through on these commitments.
*Creative ways to encourage through prayer:
*Make prayer bookmarks, declaring words over your person.
*Make prayer pictures to paste inside journals or have as screensavers on the phone.
*Going on prayer walks with one partner so you can invest with full attention.
*Sending prayer or voice texts as His spirit leads.
