Signs of a “Fake” Christian

January 23, 2026

  1. They say the right things, but their life doesn’t match
  • Verse: “By their fruits you will know them.” — Matthew 7:16
  • Real faith shows up in character, not just in Christian language.
  1. They honor God with words, but their heart is far from Him
  • Verse: “These people honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.” — Matthew 15:8
  • Christianity isn’t performance — it’s relationship.
  1. No real repentance or desire to turn from sin
  • Verse: “If we say we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we lie…” — 1 John 1:6
  • Everyone struggles, but a real believer hates sin and wants freedom.
  1. They live comfortably in sin and feel no conviction
  • Verse: “No one born of God makes a practice of sinning…” — 1 John 3:6
  • Grace is not a license — the Holy Spirit brings conviction.
  1. No love for others, only love for self
  • Verse: “By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.” — John 13:35
  • Love is the loudest evidence of real faith.
  1. They judge others harshly but ignore their own sin
  • Verse: “First remove the plank from your own eye…” — Matthew 7:5
  • True believers walk in humility, not spiritual pride.
  1. They follow God for benefits, not for God Himself
  • Verse: “These people come to Me… but their hearts are greedy for unjust gain.” — Ezekiel 33:31
  • Real faith isn’t about money, status, or blessings — it’s about surrender.
  1. No hunger for God’s Word or prayer
  • Verse: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” — Matthew 4:4
  • A living faith desires God’s presence and truth.
  1. They cause division, gossip, or stir up drama in the church
  • Verse: “Watch out for those who cause divisions… contrary to the doctrine you learned.” — Romans 16:17
  • The Holy Spirit produces unity, not chaos.
  1. Jesus warns that not everyone who says “Lord, Lord” truly knows Him
  • Verse: “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven…” — Matthew 7:21–23
  • Salvation is about obedience and relationship, not just confession.
