We know the word of God has power but most of us don’t use it efficiently. When we pray God’s word over our personal situations, we are inviting God’s integrity into our frustration and stagnation. In turn what we are saying is: “I may be powerless, but I worship a powerful God who is faithful to His word and promises.
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23
I am praying for a friend’s salvation. His name is John. I have two bible verses that will be the foundation of my Declaration and Prayer to God. In this exercise we’re doing two things: We are using our voice to Declare God’s truth over John’s destiny. We are also reminding God of His promise so we can hold Him accountable for the fulfillment of it. For salvation comes by the drawing of the Holy Spirit, not by our convincing. In this prayer and declaration, we leave our prayer under the power of God’s own word and promise. This positions our prayer with purpose and targeted intention.
The Bible says, “Not by my might or power but by my Spirit.” Zechariah 4:6
The verses we will be pulling from are: Ephesians 1:17-21
“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.” Ephesians 1:17-21
This is what a prayer based on Ephesians 1:17-21 would look like:
“Lord, I thank you for the gift of your wisdom and revelation you are increasing in greater measures to John today.
What a gift that the eyes of his heart are enlightened, showing him the hope in Jesus and blessing him with the riches of Christ’s inheritance.
Lord, bless John with the faith to believe in the power of the name of Jesus in every way for His life.”
Now we will be pulling from: Colossians 1:9-14
“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:9-14
This is what a prayer pulled from Colossians 1:9-14 would look like:
“Heavenly Father,
Remind me to never stop praying for John. Let the power of God fill him with the knowledge of your will through all the wisdom and understanding your Spirit gives. That John may live a life worthy of Jesus’ sacrifice, bearing eternal fruit in every good work and heart stance.
Lord, help John increase in the knowledge of you so he can be strengthened with all power according to your glorious might so that John can move with great endurance and patience, giving joyful thanksgiving to YOU! For once John was living in darkness but by your spirit, He has brought into the light of your Sonship with the redemption and forgiveness of John’s sins so he can enjoy the eternal inheritance you’ve reserved for your holy ones. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
There is power in personalizing things; this is when we take ownership of it! Just think about any monogramed gift. It costs more to personalize it, but this upgrade actually brings the value down, because the amount of people the item will appeal to will be less. But, that’s the point. The value is for one specific recipient. It is personal, not meant for the masses but meant to target the heart of the beloved. Personalized prayers and Declarations are a way of getting the word in us but also speaking the word over others. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving!
