In several of my previous videos, I talk about Destructive thoughts and how satan uses them to construct a life that does not reflect God’s goodness.
Often, when we grow up in environments where our parents did not teach us to watch our words and the thoughts we ruminate on, it’s hard to discern when they come on. Because this is our ‘norm’.
To recap, our Destructive emotions come from Destructive thoughts. So, we must consider where those Destructive thoughts originate. They come about through False Beliefs. How do most of us get those False Beliefs? Though our life situations.
Lessons we learn in life, are often hard to untangle for our emotions, identity and security can be wrapped up in this. Sometimes we cannot control our life situations to the degree that we can keep our False Beliefs from being triggered.
The Bible says:
“Examine me, O Lord, and prove me: try my mind and my heart for your loving-kindness is before my eyes, and I have walked in your truth.” Psalm 62:2-3
Today, we are going to journal out our Emotions so we can identify where we are vulnerable to the enemy’s attack.
Journal Prompts:
- If our emotions come from our thoughts, and our thoughts spring from our beliefs, what is the significance of identifying your beliefs? What are the benefits?
2. Think over the past twenty- four hours. Identify when you were in a strong emotional response. What triggered this?
- Which of the emotions might be considered destructive?
- Think back to the past week. Who were the people and what were the circumstances that brought out negative, destructive emotions in you? What do those feelings reveal about your own thoughts and beliefs?
“Heavenly Father,
I am yours and I matter to you.
You formed me in my mother’s womb and you are invested in my spiritual growth and healing.
Within the context of our relationship, I find my meaning and identity.
The enemy wants to shape my identity and self-worth on my circumstance, history, failures and short comings.
You desire me to learn who I am as I lean on you.
Lord, my emotions are not a bad thing.
But, they can be leveraged against me, to put me on another path and trajectory.
Show me what to do with them.
Sanctify my pain.
Help me refrain from doing what I always do; enter my pause.
Fill my mind and heart with your spirit so I can navigate my emotions, learning to use them for my good and your glory.
Teach me your ways.
Reveal my false beliefs and help me build a solid foundation based in you, not my emotions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
