I want to share something I wrote in my journal after I was praying and asking the Lord about modern prophets and the people who are speaking into Christians’ lives today.
Before I read this, I want to be clear: I believe the prophetic is real, and I believe prophets have a place in the church. This is not a warning against every prophet. It is a warning about corruption, dependence, and allowing any person to take the place that belongs to the Holy Spirit.
I also want you to test what I am sharing. Don’t receive something simply because I say I heard it from the Lord. Take it to Scripture, pray over it, and let the Holy Spirit show you what is true.
With that said, this is what I wrote:
Heavenly Father,
I was reading about the old Prophets & was wondering your thoughts about the prophets speaking to your people today.
“Many modern prophets have become “soothe-sayers,” They scratch itching ears to fill their own bellies for they are focused on themselves and what they will receive, not about sharing my Truth which is what my people need. By doing this, they defile their own conscience & those who come to them. Both fall into a spiritual stupor, stagnating the move of God.
Those who eat from their table are quick to receive a word of the flesh, which is NOT a word from my Spirit. Beware! The thief is in the church wearing the garments of a priest with a darkened heart of The Beast. These men (and women) of the flesh are feeding off the ignorance & desperation of my sheep, leading them into complacency & poverty of faith in me.
I cannot and will not be bought or sold like cattle to feed the masses who only receive what feels good to their Flesh. I am looking for humble servants who are ready to serve me…Not themselves! My house has become a circus and a marketplace. The church was never meant to be a display of wealth, talent or display of popularity.
My house was established as a place of honor and heart-felt worship; a sanctuary of humility, repentance and communion with God and man. A place to wash your souls from the defilement of the world, not a marketplace of branding, bragging and placating the flesh.
I then saw a vision of very FAKE looking veneers. A smile with perfectly shaped white teeth. The scene flashed where I was now able to see through those teeth, which revealed rotten decaying ones beneath. The saccharine grin had a sinister smile of deceit. Then the scene ended and I continued to journal.
Wake up Church! Wake up! Come to me & Repent from your sins of complacency. Repent for Outsourcing your Holy Spirit to a man a woman who charges for wisdom that is NOT of me!
I cannot be bought or sold, for I am a priceless gift given to those who will wait upon me and pursue my heart, my will, my presence, my direction.
Those who wait upon me will receive my favor. The favor of this world is fleeting and unfulfilling where sorrows & heavy chains shackle those ensnared by deception clothed in priests clothing, spoken with the tongue of an angel and the heart of the devil.
These people hold the appearance of godliness, but their hearts are FAR from me.
For the desire of their heart is for themselves.
They don’t seek my Kingdom. They seek to expand their own—their bank accounts & expense accounts and their status with powerful men! They have no concern for my will or my ways.
They heap upon themselves judgment for their final day. Do not entangle yourselves with witches and warlocks who seduce you and loot you of your faith in me.
I cannot be bought or sold; my presence is a gift I give all my children who take the time to sit with me.
Come away, my beloved. Return to your first love. Repent and unshackle yourself from the snare of laziness and apathy. Am I not enough? What can empty words of vain men and woman produce for you?
Let my Salt of my Truth wash you from the seduction of the enemy. I will not soothe itching ears but I will tell your spirit the Truth it needs to hear.
Come away from the distractions of this life and make time for me for this will not only bless you in this life but for eternity.”
What I feel the Lord was showing me through this is that a lot of people have become so distracted that the enemy has hijacked their discernment.
Instead of sitting with God, reading His Word, and allowing the Holy Spirit to confront, correct, and lead them, they are going from person to person looking for a word. Sometimes they surround themselves with prophets who will tell them what they want to hear instead of what the Lord knows they need to hear.
I believe prophets are real, and I believe they have a place in the church. But a prophet is never supposed to replace the Holy Spirit.
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit was present and active, but He did not indwell every believer in the same new-covenant way He does now. Jesus promised that when He left, He would send the Helper to teach us, guide us, convict us, and comfort us. Through Christ, we have access to God for ourselves. We do not need another person to become a substitute for that relationship.
And that is what I believe is being stolen. It is not only people’s money. It is their personal relationship with God. It is their personal accountability for their sin. It is the quiet time where the Lord leads them, corrects them, and matures them. People are depending on prophets instead of depending on God because it feels easier, and because they are being told what they want to hear.
But at the end of our lives, we will answer to the Lord for ourselves. We will not be able to put that responsibility on a prophet. If we ignored the Holy Spirit, refused correction, or followed someone’s voice because it made us feel good, that choice will be ours.
