THREE-DAY MARRIAGE PREPARATION FAST

August 31, 2026

I personally believe deciding who you marry is the most important decision of your life and if you’re a child of God, you cannot leave this up to luck, circumstance, the stars aligning, mid-life crisis, baby clock timing, or the pressure or opinion of others.  You must hear from God and get full clearance from Him.
This one relationship has the power to shape you into the person God had in mind when He created you…or it has the power to break and overtake every plan of God ..slowly or quickly demolishing.
I understand this is not the kind of encouraging word someone wants to read before they embark on the idea of marriage. But this sacred covenant is not a joke to be taken lightly. When we say the words: “To death do us part.” We must truly take that vow to heart.

This three-day fast protocol was created to get your heart, spirit and mind ready to receive (or let go) for God’s best in this important matter. This fast is not about becoming “good enough” to earn a husband or assuming that singleness proves something is wrong. Marriage is a gift, not a reward for perfection.

The posture of this fast is:

“Lord, reveal and remove whatever is contrary to You, prepare us for covenant love, and direct our steps according to Your wisdom and timing.”

DAY ONE Theme: Reveal, repent, and release to REMOVE

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23–24

“Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us.” — Hebrews 12:1

PRAY FOR GOD TO REMOVE FROM US:

• Spiritual hindrances: Compromise, disobedience, idolatizing marriage, divided loyalties, prayerlessness, or placing a husband in a position only God should occupy.

• Fear and false beliefs: Fear of rejection, abandonment, vulnerability, intimacy, aging, being overlooked, or believing there are no godly men left.

• Shame and condemnation: Feeling unworthy of love because of the past, previous relationships, sexual history, divorce, mistakes, appearance, age, or family history.

• Unhealed emotional pain: Bitterness, grief, resentment, distrust, disappointment, anger toward men, father wounds, or unresolved betrayal.

• Unhealthy attachments: Emotional or sexual entanglements with former partners, unavailable people, imagined relationships, or someone God has asked us to release.

• Character immaturity: Pride, selfishness, dishonesty, defensiveness, entitlement, impulsiveness, passivity, unreliability, manipulation, or refusal to accept correction.

• Control and striving: Trying to force relationships, rushing intimacy, obsessively searching, manipulating circumstances, or being unwilling to trust God’s pace.

• People-pleasing and weak boundaries: Ignoring discomfort, tolerating disrespect, overgiving to earn love, rescuing others, or being afraid to say no.

• Faulty discernment: Confusing chemistry with character, intensity with intimacy, attention with commitment, charm with spiritual maturity, or pressure with divine confirmation.

• Unrealistic expectations: Looking for perfection, comparing every man to an imaginary ideal, prioritizing superficial traits, or expecting marriage to heal every wound.

• Sexual hindrances: Lust, pornography, sexual compromise, distorted beliefs about sex, lingering sexual attachments, fear of marital intimacy, or shame surrounding the body. Sexual trauma is not a character flaw. It should be brought to God gently and may also require safe and trustworthy professional support.

• Relational immaturity: Poor communication, inability to apologize, avoidance of conflict, explosive reactions, silent punishment, or difficulty expressing needs honestly.

• Practical disorder: Financial irresponsibility, avoided debt, unstable work habits, an overfilled life, isolation, family entanglements, unfinished legal matters, or no practical room for a relationship.

• Counterfeit relationships: Deceptive, unsafe, unavailable, spiritually incompatible, or chronically confusing connections.

• False urgency: Comparison, panic, desperation, arbitrary deadlines, and the fear that we must accept the wrong relationship because time is running out.

• Unnecessary logistical obstacles: Distance, schedules, geography, lack of community, or missed opportunities to meet. Ask God to remove what should be removed and provide wisdom for what requires practical action.

PRAY OVER YOUR FUTURE HUSBAND/WIFE

Pray through these same areas without assuming that an unknown man is guilty of particular sins.

“Lord, wherever healing, conviction, maturity, freedom, courage, or practical change is needed in his life, reveal it and help him respond.”

Ask God to remove counterfeit relationships, sexual compromise, fear of commitment, passivity, pride, financial chaos, unresolved pain, unhealthy family control, spiritual deception, and anything that would prevent him from recognizing or sustaining a healthy covenant.

DAY-ONE PERSONAL REFLECTION JOURNAL PROMPTS:

• What am I genuinely surrendering?

• Is there someone or something I need to release?

• Where have fear or loneliness affected my decisions?

• What pattern has God already asked me to confront?

• What might require repentance?

• What requires healing rather than self-condemnation?

Not everything on this list will apply. The goal is to let the Holy Spirit identify what is real, not to manufacture guilt.

DAY TWO: PREPARE TO RECEIVE

Theme: Renew, strengthen, and make room.

“If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.” — 2 Timothy 2:21

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally.” — James 1:5

“Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house.” — Proverbs 24:27

ASK GOD TO PREPARE US:

• Prepare our identity: Make us secure in Christ rather than dependent upon romantic attention for our worth.

• Prepare our eyes: Help us recognize humility, faithfulness, honesty, teachability, spiritual fruit, consistency, and genuine godly character.

• Prepare our hearts: Increase our ability to trust wisely, receive love, show affection, forgive, remain tender, and be emotionally present.

• Prepare our character: Develop patience, kindness, humility, self-control, courage, dependability, generosity, and integrity.

• Prepare our communication: Teach us to listen, speak truth gently, express our needs, receive correction, apologize, and repair conflict.

• Prepare our boundaries: Help us move at a healthy pace, say no when necessary, protect purity, and distinguish compassion from rescuing.

• Prepare our sexuality: Establish a holy, healthy, and shame-free understanding of marital intimacy, faithfulness, consent, tenderness, and mutual honor.

• Prepare our practical lives: Bring order to our finances, work, schedules, health responsibilities, home life, and commitments.

• Prepare our community: Surround us with wise believers who will encourage truth, accountability, and discernment.

• Prepare us for a real person: Remove the fantasy of a flawless husband and give us grace to love an imperfect but sincere and growing man.

• Prepare us for partnership: Teach us cooperation, shared responsibility, sacrifice, friendship, laughter, service, and mutual honor.

• Prepare room in our lives: Show us whether our schedules, habits, expectations, or emotional defenses leave space for another person.

• Prepare the meeting: Direct ordinary circumstances, relationships, churches, friendships, travel, work, and geography according to God’s providence.

• Prepare us to sustain marriage: The prayer is not merely, “Help us meet,” but, “Prepare us to build and protect a healthy covenant.”

PRAYING FOR GOD TO PREPARE THE FUTURE SPOUCE:

Pray that God would establish his identity in Christ, mature his/her character, heal history, develop purity and self-control, order finances, strengthen work, and give courage to pursue marriage with honesty and clarity.

Ask God to surround this future spouce with godly friends, wise counsel, healthy accountability, and a strong church community.

Pray that he/she will recognize character over appearance, partnership over fantasy, and covenant over convenience.

DAY THREE: PRAISE AND DECLARE

Theme: Worship, thank, bless, and trust.

“I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” — Psalm 34:1

“Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18

“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.” — Numbers 6:24–26

PRAISE GOD FOR:

• His goodness, wisdom, faithfulness, protection, and perfect knowledge.

• Hearing every prayer, including those that have not yet been visibly answered.

• Every counterfeit relationship from which He has protected us.

• The healing, growth, wisdom, and discernment He is already producing.

• His ability to direct two people’s paths without manipulation or striving.

• The future testimony that will bring Him glory.

• His sufficiency, whether the answer comes quickly or requires continued waiting.

Biblical declaration is not commanding God, manifesting a particular person, or guaranteeing a deadline. It is agreeing with biblical truth, blessing what God is doing, and expressing confident trust while leaving the identity, pathway, and timing in His hands.

DECLARATION OF BLESSING OVER OURSELVES

In the name of Jesus, we declare that our lives belong to Jesus Christ. We are not forgotten, rejected, abandoned, or behind. Our worth is established in Christ and is not determined by our relationship status.

We renounce agreement with fear, shame, comparison, desperation, bitterness, counterfeit attachment, and false urgency. We surrender every pattern, belief, relationship, and expectation that does not agree with God’s truth.

We receive wisdom, healing, discernment, patience, courage, and self-control. We will learn to recognize character over charm, consistency over intensity, peace over pressure, and truth over fantasy.

May God prepare us to communicate honestly, listen humbly, establish healthy boundaries, receive correction, repair conflict, practice purity, steward our finances, and love sacrificially.

We bless our minds, hearts, bodies, homes, work, friendships, finances, and future decisions. May our lives be prepared not merely to meet a husband, but to build a faithful and healthy covenant that honors Jesus Christ.

We will not manipulate, chase, panic, or settle out of fear. We trust God to guide our steps with wisdom, protect us from counterfeits, and make His direction clear. We receive His peace while we wait, His wisdom when we act, and His grace throughout the process.

Lord, establish the work You are doing within us and prepare us to receive every good gift with maturity, humility, and gratitude.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

DECLARATION OF BLESSING OVER THE FUTURE SPOUCE

In the name of Jesus, I bless my future spouce wherever he/she is today.

Lord, protect, guide, and establish his/her identity firmly in Christ. Give wisdom, integrity, purity, humility, courage, tenderness, self-control, and spiritual discernment.

Wherever healing, conviction, reconciliation, deliverance, or practical change is needed, bring it into the light and give them courage to respond. Close every counterfeit relationship and remove every influence that would draw them away from truth, faithfulness, and covenant.

Heal the wounds of his/her past without allowing those wounds to harden the heart. Teach strength without harshness, leadership without control, tenderness without passivity, confidence without pride, and purity without shame.

Surround him/her with godly friends, wise counsel, healthy accountability, and a faithful church community. Establish the work of their hands, teach them financial stewardship, and prepare them to provide care, stability, faithfulness, and sacrificial love within marriage.

Give him/her eyes to recognize the women You’ve prepared. Give courage to pursue with honorable intentions, clarity, patience, and consistency. Keep his/her heart from confusion, deception, distraction, and fear-driven decisions.

Direct his/her path according to Your providence. Remove unnecessary obstacles, bridge whatever distance You desire to bridge, and bring the right relationships together without manipulation or striving.

Bless and keep our future spouces. Make Your face shine upon them, be gracious unto them, and give them peace.

Prepare our future homes to be places of truth, safety, affection, laughter, hospitality, prayer, faithfulness, and service to others.

May our future marriages bear good fruit, strengthen our relationships with Christ, and become living testimonies of Your faithfulness.

In Jesus’ name, amen.
