“The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” James 3:17
In today’s world, Wisdom is not lauded. Loud mouths and Big egos seem to get all the attention. Think about it. If you want to stand out in a room full of loud attention seekers, you must lean into the quiet truth wisdom carries. You must let true wisdom guide your conversations, decisions and relationships.
What is the goal of having wisdom? For me it is to live a rich, fulfilling life.
If we want wisdom from God, then we must define it according to His terms.
True wisdom is:
1.Pure.
2.Peaceable.
3.Gentle.
4.Willing to Yield.
5.Full of Mercy and good fruits.
6.Without Partiality.
7.Without Hypocrisy.
Pure.
God is holy and He has no hidden motives. True Wisdom is the same.
Peaceable.
When we’re going through a difficult time, God promises to give us perfect peace and this peace helps us to make decisions from a place of stability. (Psalm 119:165)
Gentle.
A gentle nature is strength contained. For many opportunities and doors can open without force with gentleness.
Yielding.
This means willing to take instructions. When the spiritually wise are in command, they must be gentle. But when they are under authority, they must be willing to yield—which is to take instruction. True wisdom understands receiving wisdom greater than yourself.
Mercy and Good Fruits.
Our lives which are full of Mercy in a merciless world, speak for themselves. No one can argue with the good fruit yielded from true wisdom.
Without Partiality.
This means without Discrimination. If God has given every person inherent value, we must honor God’s perspective by honoring all.
Without Hypocrisy.
A hypocrite is someone who is a phony and not presenting themselves in the light of truth. In essence, when we don’t walk our talk everyone can see through it. We have exposed our true nature which is not wise but foolish.
